Check out the Incoming Class of 2022 as they participate in the annual "You Are the Y" night as part of New Student Orientation. Organized by First-Year Experience and the Student Connection & Leadership Center, this event welcomes and introduces students to the meaning of being part of the "Y."
Students received a class t-shirt, posed for the traditional "Y" photo and listened to messages from the BYUSA President Ethan Baker and BYU’s VP for Belonging Carl Hernandez. In addition, this annual experience introduces students to such BYU traditions as BYU athletics and the BYU Marching Band.
Ultimately, the purpose of the night was to convey to students that they are the primary focus of the BYU Mission. To help them find their place at BYU while celebrating “the variety of individual characteristics, life experiences and circumstances, perspectives, talents, and gifts” (BYU Statement on Belonging) they each bring to the Y.
