Celebrating the Process of Hitting Submit

A group of 25 Brigham Young University students have just hit “submit” in a big way. On October 14, these students met to celebrate their submitted applications to national and global scholarships. The Office of National Scholarships and Prestigious Fellowships and the Kennedy Center together organized a dinner to recognize applicants to the Fulbright U.S. Student Program, the Rhodes Scholarship, the Knight-Hennessy Scholars, and the Marshall Scholarship.

These scholarships help fund graduate education, research, and teaching programs worldwide. Applying students put in tremendous effort and spent many months on their applications as they combined interviews, research, written proposals, and letters of recommendation. For the majority of the scholarships, the university must review and endorse the students' applications. For these outstanding students, the application alone is worthy of recognition.

At the event, Audrey Hanks, the National Scholarships and Prestigious Fellowships coordinator, opened the event and addressed the students, saying, “The fact you applied for these scholarships means you have become a certain kind of person through discipline, hard work, and sacrifice. It has been a joy to work with all of you over the course of these months.”

After Hanks’ remarks, each student was given a certificate recognizing their application. The students then discussed their scholarships and educational goals over dinner. Recipients for the scholarships will be announced during the 2022–23 academic year. To learn more about national scholarships and the application process, visit ugrad.byu.edu/scholarships.
